Amazon Prime Video introduces AI-powered X-Ray Recaps for spoiler-free TV show catch-ups

Amazon Prime Video has introduced X-Ray Recaps, a new AI-powered feature designed to help viewers quickly catch up on TV shows without spoilers. This feature generates concise summaries of entire seasons, individual episodes, and even specific scenes, tailored to the viewer's current watching point. X-Ray Recaps enhances the existing X-Ray features by providing key plot points, character developments, and cliffhangers in short textual snippets accessible during viewing.

The feature is powered by Amazon Bedrock, an AWS service for building generative AI applications, and utilizes models trained on Amazon SageMaker. These models analyze video segments in conjunction with subtitles or dialogue to create detailed descriptions of important events and conversations, while guardrails are in place to ensure summaries remain spoiler-free.

X-Ray Recaps can be accessed from the Prime Video detail page or during playback, and is currently in beta for Fire TV users in the U.S. Additional device support is anticipated by the end of the year.
