Tails 6.8 now offers file system repair when unlocking the Persistent Storage

Tails has released version 6.8 of its portable Linux distribution focusing on privacy and anti-surveillance features. This update introduces a repair option for the file system of persistent storage when errors are detected, available from the welcome screen. To address cases where errors cannot be resolved this way, the Tails team has provided detailed documentation on alternative data recovery methods.

The new release updates Tor Browser to version 13.5.6 and enhances the notification system for network interface issues related to MAC address anonymization failures. Additionally, Tails 6.8 extends the maximum waiting time to 8 minutes for unlocking persistent storage before an error is triggered. The update also includes improvements in user experience by hiding passwords during the unlocking process and better handling of failures when sending WhisperBack error messages.
