Calibre 7.20 brings new a PDF engine, Piper TTS enhancements, and improved trim image tool
Calibre, the widely-used e-book management software, has released its latest update, version 7.20. This update introduces a new PDF Input engine designed to automatically detect headers and footers through document analysis, now set as the default option. Users can revert to the previous engine via the Conversion dialog if desired.
Additionally, Calibre 7.20 enhances text-to-speech capabilities by allowing users to configure an extra pause at the end of sentences with the Piper TTS engine. For those working with PDF templates, the update adds _WIDTH_PIXELS_ and _HEIGHT_PIXELS_ variables to determine the dimensions of header and footer areas.
On Windows systems, Calibre now defaults to using bundled SSL certificates rather than the system certificate store. The trim image tool has also been improved with a new control for adjusting aspect ratio. Furthermore, this version includes support for the latest firmware on the Tolino Shine 5 device, ensuring compatibility with the newest e-reader technology.
