Audacity 3.7 update brings improved features, enhanced Linux compatibility, and bug fixes
The team behind Audacity has released version 3.7, bringing a series of improvements and bug fixes to the popular audio editing and recording software. This update enhances Linux compatibility and improves contrast in the light theme. The term “Insane” for MP3 exports has been renamed to “Excessive,” and non-standard character handling for cloud saving has been improved. Users will notice faster startup speeds on systems with numerous audio devices, and a fix for the VST presets path on macOS.
Additionally, users can now undo actions related to adding, removing, replacing, and reordering effects. Stability improvements include resolving crashes when closing a project with real-time effect stacks and canceling stereo tracks mid-operation. Importing Opus files using libopus no longer results in shifted audio data, and pasting clips does not inadvertently move clips on other tracks when editing settings allow it. The update also addresses issues with database compacting.
This release marks a period of focus on the upcoming Audacity 4.0, which promises a complete UI overhaul and is still in development.
