Tails 5.22 comes with enhancements to the file access and persistent storage
Tails, the Linux-based operating system renowned for its robust protection against surveillance and censorship, has announced the release of its latest version, 5.22. This portable OS now offers increased functionality in the Tor Browser, allowing users to save files to a wider variety of folders such as Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos. In addition, files can be uploaded from these locations.
The new version introduces an automated repair feature for Persistent Storage. If the system detects a malfunction in your Persistent Storage, Tails will attempt to fix the file system as soon as you unlock it from the Welcome Screen.
Tails 5.22 also provides detailed information on write speed post-cloning a Persistent Storage through Tails Cloner. In a move to protect data, the system will not attempt to unlock or delete a Persistent Storage located on a read-only USB stick.
Addressing a privacy issue first identified in Tails 5.15.1, the 5.22 version prevents the leakage of the first-level domain of visited websites in WhisperBack reports.
The updated Tails 5.22 comes bundled with Tor Browser 13.0.9 and Thunderbird 115.7, alongside other enhancements, changes, and bug fixes, further strengthening its standing as a secure and privacy-focused operating system.
