Popular to-do list app Clear gets big design overhaul and goes free with in-app theme shop

Clear, the iOS to-do list app known for its use of gestures and clean design, has launched version 2.0. This latest release marks a departure from its previous subscription-based model, as the app has been entirely reconstructed using the Swift language and now operates for free.

The monetization strategy for Clear 2 revolves around a daily rotating shop where users can purchase app icons, color themes, sound packs, quote packs, and custom fonts as rewards. This new approach is a part of the app's broader 'rewards' system, which allows users to unlock collectibles by completing tasks, sharing the app, and more.

Clear 2 also supports the edge-to-edge design of modern iPhone models, a feature facilitated by the app's rebuild. The new version introduces several new gestures, including batch drag and drop, drag and drop between lists, swipe to schedule reminders, and swipe to archive lists.

The app's updates extend to its legacy users as well, who will have the opportunity to unlock exclusive legacy rewards. These updates mark a significant shift in Clear's approach to task management, as it continues to innovate within its clean, gesture-based design.
