KDE unveils first Release Candidate for KDE Plasma 6, final version due end of February

KDE has announced the release of the first Release Candidate for its upcoming 6th Megarelease, just one month after the first beta. The final megarelease, set to be published at the end of February 2024, will include Plasma 6, Frameworks 6, and a new suite of applications as part of a special edition of KDE Gear.

The KDE team is currently navigating the testing phase and gradually achieving stability across all software included in the megarelease. The first Release Candidate version of the software is now available, marking a significant step towards the final product.

However, it's important to note that this Release Candidate is intended as a preview for developers and testers. While the software is nearing stability, it is not yet fully secure for use in production environments.

For everyday work, the KDE team advises users to continue using the stable versions of Plasma, Frameworks, and apps until the final version of the Megarelease is published.
