Google partners with Samsung to unveil Quick Share: a cross-Android file-sharing solution
Google has unveiled a new file-sharing method for Android and Chromebooks during its CES announcement. The tech giant has collaborated with Samsung to merge the strengths of Google's Nearby Share and Samsung's Quick Share into a singular cross-Android solution, under the Quick Share name.
Google's aim is to provide a default, built-in option for peer-to-peer content sharing across all devices in the Android and Chromebook ecosystems, quite similar to Apple's AirDrop solution. The new Quick Share feature will display a list of nearby devices with a simple tap on the icon. Users have the ability to control their privacy settings, deciding who can discover their device and send files.
In an effort to enhance device interoperability, Google is also partnering with other PC manufacturers, such as LG, to extend Quick Share to Windows PCs as a pre-installed app.
Google plans to begin rolling out the new Quick Share to existing Nearby Share enabled devices next month.
