K-9 Mail makes progress to its transition to Thunderbird for Android with new account setup user interface

K-9 Mail, the forthcoming Thunderbird for Android, has recently shared its July progress report. The Thunderbird team has been developing a revamped account setup user interface, though a few unresolved issues have delayed the beta release featuring the new setup.

The team is also exploring the effort required to transition the app to Material 3, Google's latest open-source design system. The current strategy involves implementing Material 3 prior to the app's rebranding from K-9 Mail to Thunderbird.

Moreover, the Thunderbird team has disclosed the findings of a security audit conducted by OSTIF and carried out by 7ASecurity. The audit did not detect any high-risk vulnerabilities, but it did reveal a number of vulnerabilities with low-to-medium risk.
