Jitsi Meet will require an account authentication for room creation starting August 24th
Jitsi Meet, a free and secure tool for organizing video calls and conferences, has recently announced some changes to its platform. Starting from August 24th, the anonymous creation of rooms on meet.jit.si will no longer be supported. Instead, users will be required to use an account. Initially, Jitsi Meet will support Google, GitHub, and Facebook accounts, although the list of supported platforms may be amended in the future.
The move to require authentication comes after an increase in reports of people violating Jitsi's terms of service. The company has determined that this step is necessary to continue operating meet.jit.si. The account responsible for creating rooms will now be stored by 8×8, the company behind Jitsi Meet.
Jitsi Meet acknowledged that this is a new approach and users may encounter some issues as they tweak the experience to ensure minimal friction when entering a meeting.
For users that feel uncomfortable with using an account to access the service, Jitsi suggests hosting their own deployment of Jitsi Meet as an alternative.

Well, it's understandable to require accounts for a service as big as jitsi, but personally, not needing an account was the reason I used/ self hosted it. At least you can self host it if you don't like that 🤷♂️
I can urderstand this change, but why logging in with a third party provider, instead of creating an account directly on their website? ugh
