Google Rolls Out Chrome 116 with Enhanced Security Features, Improved Permissions System, and New APIs
Google has released a new stable version of its browser, Google Chrome, for desktop, Android, and iOS, with a focus on security enhancements. The updated version, Chrome 116, addresses 26 different security vulnerabilities and increases Telemetry within the browser, including anti-phishing telemetry that records user interaction data and sends it to Chrome and Safe Browsing servers.
In addition there are various other changes like an improved permissions system and the introduction of new APIs for web applications. One significant feature is the implementation of one-time permissions, allowing users to grant temporary permission for specific site requests via a new "Allow this time" button.
Google has also upgraded the browser's Memory Saver and Energy Saver modes. Furthermore, web apps can now generate Picture-in-Picture windows that can contain any content, not just videos. This new Document Picture-in-Picture mode offers an always-on-top window that can be populated that can contain any HTML elements.
