Discord begins testing End-to-End Encryption for Voice and Video Calls to boost user privacy

Discord has started experimenting with end-to-end encryption for its voice and video calls to boost user privacy without impacting quality or causing delays. Messaging Layer Security (MLS), a secure group communication protocol, is being considered to maintain message confidentiality and integrity even in the case of a compromised server.

To ensure a successful encryption implementation, Discord is consulting with experts in the field. This collaborative effort is intended to help Discord navigate encryption complexities and deliver the best results for users.

However, Discord's current encryption testing does not extend to its Stages feature, a different communication tool designed for larger public discussions, that relies on distinct technical systems compared to other calls.
