Backblaze announces pricing changes and product upgrades for B2 Cloud Storage and Computer Backup services

Backblaze, the well-known online backup application and cloud storage service, has recently announced several updates and upgrades to its products—B2 Cloud Storage and Computer Backup—as well as changes to its pricing structure. These changes are expected to roll out in the coming months.

Effective October 3, 2023, Backblaze will be revising its pay-as-you-go storage rate. The monthly storage rate will increase from $5/TB to $6/TB. However, the pricing for B2 Reserve will remain unchanged.

In a move to enhance its service offering, Backblaze will also be providing free egress (data download) for all B2 Cloud Storage customers, both pay-as-you-go and B2 Reserve. Customers will be able to download up to three times the amount of data they store for free, with any additional egress priced at a nominal $0.01/GB.

Changes have also been announced for Backblaze Computer Backup. Starting from October 3, new purchases and renewals will be priced at $9/month, $99/year, and $189 for two-year subscription plans. Additionally, the pricing for Forever Version History will be $0.006/GB. The same date will also see all Computer Backup licenses being able to add One Year Extended Version History, previously priced at $2 per month, at no extra cost.

In terms of product enhancements, Backblaze is set to release Version 9.0 in September. This new version includes several performance and usability improvements, along with a much-anticipated local restore experience for end users.

Furthermore, Backblaze has a promising roadmap of enhancements to its Groups functionality. These upgrades are aimed at catering to the needs of their expanding and diverse customer base.
