Unity launches PolySpatial beta program for visionOS, enabling developers to create apps for Apple Vision Pro
Unity has revealed that following the unveiling of Apple Vision Pro and visionOS at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023, it has initiated its beta program for crafting spatial experiences on the visionOS platform. Unity, recognized primarily as a 2D and 3D video game engine, has a substantial legacy on Apple's platforms.
To facilitate this, Unity is introducing PolySpatial, a feature enabling apps to operate in visionOS's Shared Space. All components in the Shared Space are based on RealityKit. Consequently, PolySpatial converts Unity materials, meshes, shaders, and so forth into RealityKit. However, there exist certain constraints in this context, necessitating developers to occasionally adjust, construct new shaders, and perform similar tasks to get their apps functioning on Vision Pro.
Developers keen on Unity PolySpatial can find more details in Unity's blog post, which also provides links to additional Unity and Apple development resources. The PolySpatial beta sign-up is also available here.
