LXD no longer part of Linux Containers and joins Ubuntu maker Canonical
Yesterday, the Linux Containers (LXC) project announced that LXD has moved to Canonical. LXD, which provides a unified user experience for managing system containers and virtual machines, is no longer part of the Linux Containers project but can now be found directly on Canonical's website.
According to the Linux Containers announcement, Canonical made the decision to move LXD under its own set of projects after more than 8 years as part of the Linux Containers community. While the Linux Containers team regrets the decision, they respect Canonical's choice and are currently in the process of transferring the project.
As a result of this move, the LXD website, GitHub repositories, YouTube channel, forums, and infrastructure will all be transferred to Canonical's care. These changes are expected to happen quickly due to the tight integration of the project. However, users may experience some disruptions as Canonical sets up the replacement infrastructure.
