Discord introduces Family Center to enhance user safety and provide transparency for parents
Discord, the popular communication platform, has recently introduced a Family Center to enhance user safety and provide transparency for parents. The Family Center is designed to offer information and resources to help construct a safer Discord experience, and to keep parents informed about their teen's Discord activities.
The Family Center is an opt-in tool that respects the autonomy of teens while providing parents with an understanding of their child's online interactions. It operates similarly to how parents are aware of their teen's friends and club memberships at school, providing insight into their Discord friendships and conversations.
The Family Center comprises two main elements: an activity dashboard that can be accessed from Discord at any time, and a weekly email summary that provides high-level information about a teen's activity.
To utilize these features, both parents and teens must complete the setup process through the official Discord app. The Family Center allows parents to know who their teen is communicating with and the Discord communities they are part of. However, it does not disclose the content of the conversations.
