Xonotic 0.8.6: New Maps, Game Modes, and Security Fixes in this Essential Upgrade for FPS Fans
Xonotic , the classic free and open source FPS arena shooter, has recently released version 0.8.6, which includes several new features and upgrades.
Xonotic is an arena-style first person shooter, with fast-paced movement and gameplay plus a wide array of weapons. It's completely free and has full Native Linux support. Developed as a fork of a previous game called Nexuiz, the game has become incredibly popular among gamers.
Xonotic 0.8.6 brings in two new official maps, a few tweaks to existing maps, performance optimizations, lots of bug fixes and security fixes, a new "superbots" AI that are really tough to fight against, new moderation systems, upgrades to various visual effects and some new game modes that sound like a lot of fun.
New game modes include Mayhem, Survival and Team Keepaway. Mayhem is a Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch where players spawn with all weapons and full health / armour. Score is given 75% based on damage and 25% based on frags. Survival is a few randomly selected players must frag all survivors, without being identified. Team Keepaway is a team variant of the free for all, where points are awarded to the team in possession of a ball for each kill.
The new release also features a number of performance optimizations, which should make the game run smoother on older hardware. The new AI system, superbots, adds an extra layer of difficulty for players seeking a more challenging experience.
Overall, Xonotic 0.8.6 is a great update for anyone who enjoys playing the game. With new game modes, optimizations, and bug fixes, the game is better than ever. If you haven't played it yet, now is a great time to check it out.
