Libreboot releases latest stable version with support for three new boards
Libreboot, the free software project based on coreboot that aims at replacing proprietary BIOS firmware in most computers, has just released its latest stable version - 20230625. This new release of Libreboot has been focused on stability, auditing the build system, and fixing bugs. As a result, hardware support has not seen significant improvements since the last release.
However, the latest version of Libreboot does support three new boards - HP EliteBook 2570p, HP 8300 USDT, and Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L (which was re-added after being previously deleted from Libreboot). This indicates that the project is still actively working to expand its hardware support.
Moving forward, the next Libreboot release will be a testing release that will focus on improving hardware support in addition to payloads such as Linux boot and UEFI. This will be a significant step forward for the project, as it aims to provide a fully free software alternative to proprietary BIOS firmware.
Libreboot has been gaining popularity among users who are concerned about privacy and security. By replacing proprietary BIOS firmware with a free and open-source alternative, users can have more control over their computer's software and protect themselves from potential security vulnerabilities.
