Damus faces potential ban from Apple App Store over Bitcoin tipping
Damus, a decentralized social media platform powered by the Nostr protocol, is facing a potential ban from the Apple App Store due to its failure to comply with Apple's guidelines for in-app purchases. The concern is that Damus, thanks to its ability to tip friend's posts integrating the Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, could be used by content creators to sell digital content on the platform.
In order to avoid a ban, the team behind Damus has made some changes to the app's tipping feature, but, despite this, Apple has stated that Damus still does not comply with its guidelines.
As a solution, Apple has suggested that Damus use Apple Pay for in-app payments, from which Apple takes a 30% cut. However, Damus has replied that it will only use Apple Pay when it supports censorship-resistant, peer-to-peer payments.
This is not the first time that Damus has encountered issues with Apple. In February, the app was rejected in China after the government made ridiculous claims that it included illegal content.
