Rocky Linux, an open-source enterprise operating system, has just released version 9.2, which is designed to be 100% bug-for-bug compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The new release is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.2 and includes many improvements and bug fixes.

Rocky Linux was created as a free alternative to CentOS, which was discontinued by Red Hat. The goal of the project is to provide a stable, secure, and reliable operating system for enterprise users.

The latest release of Rocky Linux is available for the x86-64, aarch64, and s390x architectures. It includes updated packages and security fixes, as well as new features and improvements.

Here are the main changes from this release:

  • Centos-release-nfv now provides content built on top of RHEL 9 buildroots.
  • The rockylinux/rockylinux:9-ubi universal container base image has been modified to be more similar to RHEL UBI images
  • Microsoft Azure images are now published in the shared galleries
  • An aarch64 kernel with a 64kb page size is now available via the kernel-64k package.
  • Nfsrahead, a tool to configure readahead for NFS mounts, has been added.
  • Intel Arc GPU support has been added.
  • Wireguard works again with SELinux enabled.

Rocky Linux is available for download from the project's website. The project also provides documentation and support for users who need help getting started with the operating system.
