Discord is changing its username system and will make users pick a new one soon

Discord, the popular online communication platform, has announced some significant changes to its username and identity system. Starting this month, the platform will remove the four-digit discriminator from usernames and add Display Names, ensuring that how users appear to others remains the same.

The main objective behind these changes is to make it easier for new and existing users to connect and hang out with friends. The current usernames can often be too complicated or obscure for people to remember and share easily. By simplifying the username system, Discord aims to enhance user experience and engagement.

In a statement, Discord said, "We know that your username and identity are important, and we understand that some of you may not like this change and disagree with it. We know that this is an issue you feel strongly about. We also recognize that our current username format has been one of the things that makes Discord unique, and that this change makes our usernames look a lot like those on other platforms. To be blunt, that’s kind of the point."

In the coming weeks, Discord will begin notifying users when they’re able to update their account to a new username. Users should be on the lookout for an in-app prompt when it’s their turn.

I wonder how theyll manage giving the option for the first time. Considering Nitro gave that advantage (if you can call it as such), maybe theyll recieve preference
