Apple releases updates for its devices: features and improvements for iOS, macOS, iPadOS, tvOS, and watchOS; Emergency patches for Webkit and Safari
Apple has released several software updates for their devices, including iOS 16.5, iPadOS 16.5, tvOS 16.5, macOS Ventura 13.4, and watchOS 9.5. These updates come just under a month before Apple's annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), where they traditionally reveal significant updates for each platform.
In iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5, users can find two new features: a dedicated Sports tab within the Apple News app and 'My Sports Score and Schedule' cards that offer instant access to individual games. Additionally, iOS 16.5 comes with a brand new price celebration inspired lock screen wallpaper.
For Mac users, macOS 13.4 now supports the latest sports-related improvements by integrating a similar Sports feed on the Apple News sidebar, along with the My Sports feature and improvement to Apple Watch pairing through Auto Unlock.
The focus of update in watchOS 9.5 is mainly fixing bugs and adding a brightening Pride Celebration watch face option. On the other hand, users who own Apple TV 4K will appreciate the newly launched MultiView functionality, enabling them to stream four different videos from their compatible MLS or MLB season passes in one go via the Apple TV application.
These updates also contain emergency patches to fix 3 new zero-day WebKit vulnerabilities that had been exposed and potentially exploited by hackers. A WebKit security flaw, that could be exploited by a malicious actor to break out of the Web Content sandbox, was addressed by Apple with improved bounds checks. The company also enhanced input validation and memory management to fix the other two vulnerabilities, that were related to processing maliciously crafted web content that could allow for the disclosure of sensitive information or arbitrary code execution.
