Opus 1.4 Update: Improved Build System Support and FEC Tuning

Opus 1.4 Update: Improved Build System Support and FEC Tuning

Opus 1.4, the latest version of the open-source, royalty-free versatile audio codec, is now available for download. This is the first update in four years since the Opus library release of version 1.3.1 back in April 2019. While this release may not be too significant, it comes with features that will improve the user experience.

One of the most notable additions to Opus 1.4 is the support for the Meson build system. Meson is a popular open-source build system that has gained popularity in recent years for its speedy build support with Ninja, better cross-platform compatibility than Autotools, and other modern features. This support for Meson will make it easier for developers to build and deploy Opus 1.4 in their projects.

Opus 1.4 also comes with improved tuning of the in-band Forward Error Correction (FEC), Low Bit Rate Redundancy (LBRR), a new option to turn on FEC, and improved tuning and fixes to the Discontinuous Transmission (DTX) code. These improvements will provide better audio quality and reliability for users.
