Steam won't run on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 starting in 2024

On January 1, 2024, Steam will no longer support the Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. This means that the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows.

The decision to discontinue support is due to the fact that the newest features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of Windows. In addition, future versions of Steam will require Windows feature and security updates only present in Windows 10 and above.

Steam users who are still using Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 will need to upgrade their operating system in order to continue using the platform. There are several options available for upgrading, including purchasing a new device with Windows 10 pre-installed or purchasing a digital license to upgrade an existing device.

Steam has been a popular platform for gamers since it was first released in 2003. This latest update will ensure the platform is able to continue providing the latest features and security updates to its users.
