Storybook 7.6 has been released with enhanced performance, UX, and integrations
Storybook, the open-source solution for developing UI components in isolation for React, Vue, Angular and other JavaScript frameworks, has announced the release of its final minor version in the 7 series, Storybook 7.6. This release focuses on refining Storybook’s performance and user experience, enhancing integrations with tools across the frontend ecosystem, and laying the groundwork for the forthcoming major release, Storybook 8.
The latest version introduces advanced SWC (Speedy Web Compiler) support, new test utilities, and a fast build mode. It also brings Next.js SWC + AVIF support and fixes, SvelteKit page and navigation mocking, and an upgrade to React-docgen. Additionally, Storybook 7.6 enhances the accessibility of controls with improved background theming and viewports.
The release also introduces storybook-doctor, a new command-line interface tool for diagnosing errors. In a significant change, Storybook 7.6 eliminates React as a peer dependency for all Storybook packages, except for Storybook Docs.
Alongside these improvements, Storybook 7.6 debuts a revamped documentation site and announces the deprecation of Storyshots and Vue2. The update also includes various other enhancements and bug fixes.
