HandBrake 1.7.2 released with automatic selection of Dolby Vision Level and many bug fixes
HandBrake, the renowned free and open-source video transcoder, has unveiled its latest version, 1.7.2. This new release is primarily aimed at rectifying several bugs and issues identified in the previous version, 1.7.1.
Key improvements in HandBrake 1.7.2 include an enhanced automatic selection of Dolby Vision Level and fixes to a problem in multiple encoders, including AMD VCN, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, NVIDIA NVENC, and VP9. The issue, which led to the generation of an excessive number of keyframes, has been addressed. Additionally, the update resolves an accidental automatic pass through of closed caption side data when utilizing the NVIDIA NVENC encoder.
Performance enhancements are also a part of HandBrake 1.7.2's offerings. By eliminating duplicate graphic assets and reducing file size, the software has boosted its performance on Linux. Furthermore, the update introduces Automation Properties to some controls on the audio tab, aiding screen readers on Windows.
For macOS users, HandBrake 1.7.2 brings in workarounds to prevent system crashes when using VideoToolbox encoders with macOS 14 Sonoma on Apple Silicon Ultra. The update also circumvents issues decoding H.264 video by disabling VideoToolbox hardware decoding for Level 6.1 and 6.2.
