Privacy-focused email provider Tutanota rebrands to Tuta and announces full redesign

The privacy-centric email provider, Tutanota, known for its secure email services, has announced a name change to Tuta. The newly shortened name will make it “the only secure email provider with a four-letter .com domain”. The original name, Tutanota, was derived from Latin, signifying “secure message”. However, Tuta has expressed that the former name was not as memorable or easily shared verbally, prompting the shift to the more succinct name.

This rebranding is not limited to a name and domain change. Tuta plans to introduce a new logo, along with a refreshed look and feel for their platform. The company has opted for a gradual implementation of these changes to ensure the brand remains recognizable to its users and to avoid any sudden unfamiliarity from a completely redesigned website.

The new name, Tuta, holds significance in Latin, translating to “secure”, “safe”, or “protected”, aligning with the company's mission and the original name's meaning of “secure message”.

In addition to the rebranding, Tuta is also developing post-quantum secure encryption. The company has reported good progress on this project, indicating a continued focus on enhancing their security measures.
