NixOS 23.11 'Tapir' released with over 9000 new packages, GNOME 45, and LLVM upgrade

In a recent update, NixOS, a popular Linux distribution that utilizes the Nix package manager, has launched its version 23.11, which has been given the code name “Tapir”. The blog post accompanying the release asserts that NixOS is recognized as the most current distribution, while also holding the record for the highest number of packages.

This new release has witnessed the addition of 9147 new packages, along with updates to 18700 existing packages in Nixpkgs. In a move to maintain the package set's manageability and security, 4015 packages were also eliminated.

NixOS 23.11 is equipped with GNOME 45 “Rīga”. This new addition introduces a fresh image viewer and a new camera app, amongst other changes. The LLVM package set's default version has been upgraded to 16 (from 11) on both Linux and Darwin platforms. This upgrade has ushered in a plethora of new features and enhancements.
