VLC Media Player 3.0.19 released with improved AV1 support, security fixes, and more
VLC, the globally recognized video player, has introduced version 3.0.19, encompassing a myriad of fixes, novel features, modifications, and security rectifications. This release marks the first update since version 3.0.18, which was made public in November 2022.
The VLC 3.0.19 release is notable for its enhanced AV1 HDR support with software decoding, RIFF INFO tags support for WAV audio files, upgraded support for AVI files with inverted RAW video planes, improved SSA rendering for Crunchyroll-produced content, and Super Resolution scaling compatibility with NVIDIA and Intel GPUs.
The latest VLC version addresses several security concerns. Two library updates, zlib and vpx, have been implemented to rectify the security issues CVE-2022-37434 and CVE-2023-5217. The VLC Media Player's developers have also resolved a potential security issue related to the uninstaller DLLs in this release.
Additional fixes in VLC 3.0.19 include rectifying the duration on short and small Ogg/Opus files, probing duration on certain MP4 files with missing data, resolving issues with -90° rotated videos, and fixing black screen problems on poorly edited MP4 files on Android Mediacodec. The update also enhances support for certain AV1 GBRP streams, AV1 super-resolution streams, and AV1 monochrome streams, improves file opening in read-only mode, and fixes memory leaks when utilizing the media_list_player libVLC APIs.
The 3.0.19 release also provides new translations, along with further enhancements and bug fixes.
