Instagram turning all video posts into Reels that can be remixed by others
Meta has announced that it is turning all video posts shared via the company's Instagram social network into "Reels" that can be edited and remixed by yourself and others.
Announced via an in-app notification, Instagram's move to make every video a Reel aligns with the fact that the feature is Meta's fastest growing content format. The social media giant hopes to form a monetization scheme for it "as soon as possible," with the second half of 2022 focused on doing so. As part of this, the APIs for Reels have been opened up to third parties for analytics integration and publishing.
Short-form videos such as Instagram Reels have doubled regarding the amount of time they've been watched, with Facebook accounting for 80 percent of that growth. As a result, Meta redesigned the landing pages for both Facebook and Instagram to highlight this content type.
To ensure that your videos cannot be remixed and used for other Reels in the future, the option must be disabled in your account settings or disabled on a per-video basis. If your profile is set to private, your videos can still be seen and remixed by friends as Reels unless you follow one of the above steps.
