Zenly social mapping network shutting down on February 3rd, 2023

The Zenly social network app that focused on helping you keep up with where your friends and family were hanging out is going offline on February 3rd of 2023.

Five years after its acquisition by Snapchat owner and operator Snap, Inc., the company has announced that Zenly is being shut down alongside a round of layoffs. This comes a few months following both a complete redesign and Zenly's CEO stepping down from the company shortly after the acquisition.

Instead of spinning off the company or otherwise selling it, Snap has decided to shut it down entirely despite its impressive growth of up to 35 million monthly active users. This corresponds to the fact that Snap is attempting to create a similar product in the form of Snap Maps as a subproduct of Snapchat. It also didn't help that Zenly didn't have many monetization elements and was focused more on user base growth and feature expansion.

As of this post and until February 3rd of 2023, Zenly will continue to be available via the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store, and the official website recommends trying Snap Maps as an alternative.
