Minecraft to get cross-play for all systems
At E3, Microsoft announced its upcoming Better Together Update for Minecraft that will unify the game experience across all platforms. The game has thus far been released in various iterations like Pocket Edition and Xbox One Edition. The new update will meld those into a single edition that will finally allow players to join each other in games across console, desktop and mobile systems. Also, downloadable content purchased on one platform will be available across the other platforms too. So if you buy a pack on Xbox, you'll have it on mobile as well.
Along with that initial update, there will also be a free 4K HDR graphics update with improved lighting, shadows, water effects and more. On top of that, a forthcoming Super Duper Graphics Pack has been announced with features like dynamic shadows, lighting that streams through fog, movement in leaves and grass, new textures and more. This all is very welcomed considering recent versions of Minecraft for the PC have rendered the many, gorgeous, fan-made visual mods unusable. Meanwhile Minecraft clones like Terasology have beautiful, visual filters built in but lack the substantial fan-base needed to easily find others to join in games. Minecraft clearly has that fan base and is now poised to have matching visuals from an official source.
