Opera is Reborn in a big update
One of the most beloved of underdog web browsers has received a significant update and somewhat of a rebrand as Opera Reborn. The new version sports all new design elements including light and dark themes and importantly, integrated social messaging. The messaging feature supports Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram and provides an easier way to keep up on those networks through an overlay or split window interface to avoid constant switching between tabs. Also featured are more advanced options for ad blocking including auto-reloading of pages when toggling the ad blocker as well as better control over block lists.
This new version takes cues from concept project Opera Neon Web Browser which provided a sort of testing ground for design ideas. The best parts of that project have been brought into Opera Reborn which offers a refreshed look that's consistent across platforms.
Over the past year, the browser received its ad blocking feature as well as a built-in, free VPN. These features, along with the new social integration now provide a robust core experience that eliminates the need for otherwise common extensions. This is a strong point for the browser as it faces so much competition. Coupling that with newly integrated security measures for HTTPS pages and considering the increasing importance of privacy that the browser caters to, it's a worthy competitor.
