Live stream TV with YouTube Go

Google recently launched a website for YouTube Go, its subscription-based, streaming TV service. The new service wasn't yet available at the site's launch but it's finally opened up beginning with several, major US metro areas including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, and Philadelphia.

The service already includes major TV channels like ABC, CBS, FOX, ESPN and FX with more on the way including AMC, BBC America and Sundance TV. As an additional benefit, subscribers also get access to YouTube Red Originals, special content otherwise only available with another paid subscription.

The new service launches YouTube into direct competition with the likes of DIRECTV and Xfinity Stream . Indirectly, it's facing competition from the likes of Netflix , Prime Video and similar services that have replaced traditional TV for many people in this digital age. The service is priced competitively with the former, streaming TV services at $35/month.

Membership has some distinctive benefits beyond access to YouTube Red Originals. It supports up to six accounts and up to three simultaneous streams among them. Subscribers also get a cloud DVR with unlimited storage, though recordings are only kept for 9 months. While currently, access to the service through a TV set is only possible with a Google Chromecast device, early adopters will get a free one with their first month's payment (while supplies last). The service is otherwise accessible through the web or via mobile apps.
