Google launches WebVR Experiments
WebVR is a standard for browser-based virtual reality experiences. Back in February, Google added support for it to Chrome on Daydream-ready phones. They've now added the same support for Chrome on Cardboard-ready devices as well. This coincides with the launch of the company's new home for WebVR projects called WebVR Experiments.
WebVR Experiments is a showcase of what's currently possible with the relatively new browser technology. Play a VR game of pong with Konterball or join others throughout the world in playing surreal instruments in The Musical Forest . The new site also provides a great resource for developers as the projects each contain source code links and Google links to helpful boilerplate and similar starting material in the About page.
The site is a great way for VR newcomers to see what it's all about. especially since the newly supported Cardboard technology is so inexpensive (most modern Android phones are Cardboard-compatible and headsets are dirt cheap). It also provides another great destination for those with more expensive Daydream compatible devices. And even for desktop users, the projects at the site can be experienced in 2D without the full VR immersion using just a PC with Chrome.
