Blog publishing client software are applications which you publish to your blog (on WordPress, Blogger, or other CMS) with a secondary software. This has the advantage of writing posts from your desktop (laptop, mobile whatever) without logging into your site. Also, using the client can keep things less complicated if you just want to write a post and not get into a lot of extras with your CMS. In some cases you can even use a blog publishing client to cross-post between your sites, even those running on different CMS/ software.
Sadly, there are not many reliable blog publishing clients still active. I think this is due to people not really creating and running their own sites any more.
I wish it were more active but it is the best option/ alternative to anything else I've looked at. A lot of features and it works with WordPress, Blogger and others. I actually use it with both WordPress and Blogger sites. I had it working for b2evolution as well. With a little figuring out this and that I think it could work with any CMS.
Officially, no longer supported by Microsoft. Although I wanted to use it, I never did. Dealing with the Microsoft login was a nightmare. Mine would only work once and then make me reset it again. I never remembered any of the passwords or which email I last started in an attempt to quel the Microsoft beast.
Requires a login from LiveJournal. So, this is a bit of a dinosaur these days. Unfortunate, but it did work well last time I tried it.
