DWService is much lighter, able to use even without installation, more options, web UI, also it is open source!

Sounds great at first glance. But as always, there is a catch. Yes, the software is open source, but limited in bandwidth, if you want more speed you have to subscribe. And that can cost up to 100 € for 50 Mbps maximum bandwidth per month, 1200,- € or 1346,49 $ per year. Then better use a professional solution like Teamviewer or Anydesk.

RustDesk is open source and actually great! Interface is super easy, like Team Viewer. Performance is from my laptop to my TV computer, currently using built-in WiFi N getting around 2 MBps .

UltraVNC is nice to connect to hosts while on the same network. However, you are unable to tell your parents to install this and connect to them.

TightVNC requires server configuration and port forwarding. Too complicated for the average remote client who uses Team Viewer for remote support.

Remmina is a great RDP or VNC client. These are already listed as remote desktop technologies. Let's be clear the main advantage of TeamViewer (and LogMeIn) is that the remote computer only needs an Internet connection. No port forwarding required.

Really awesome for Linux users to remotely connect to their computers through a secure connection. Allows for transmission of audio from the client, and works really well even with slow connections. To summarize: secure by default (because using ssh), good even in low latency, good for presentations, and best alternative to RDP for linux users.

It's the best open source alternative. It doesn't require port forwarding on client side. Just send the client the file and they press connect. That's it.

My purpose was to have a tool to connect to a computer in the same private network that mine so i did not want the traffic to go outside home. This makes for me aspia the best alternative from the others ones because it was the simplest to to install: no dependencies just run
