FreeMind seem unmaintained and Freeplane is directly compatible but much more professional.
Their interface is slow under my Linux because of using Java

Freemind is for free, mind manager is too much commerce driven. I did use it for years, but I don't want to use it any longer. Every year you needed to buy an update to use the newest features but the improvement always wasn't worth the cost.


Freeplane can open even old .mm files from FreeMind.
