    LibreOffice is free and open source and also brings in free document types which are not restricted by Microsoft.

    Libreoffice lacks in some point of support Microsoft only document styles but you can create fully functional documents shareable with any Microsoft office Suit.

    In my opinion WPS gives you the closest thing to MS Office. If you are familiar with MS Office you should be able to use WPS right away. This is the main reason I prefer it to OpenOffice or Libre Office

    OpenOffice was a great alternative when it was in really active development. But for more than a decade it stands on the same place without meaningful movement and it is very unfortunate. Rather use LibreOffice, which stands on the great legacy of OpenOffice but is in active development.

    I was using only Libre Office for years on Linux. Now I use FreeOffice and Latex via VS Code the most. FreeOffice is fast and streamlined, the UI is well built and looks good, very compatible with MS proprietary formats. It's also available for several platforms. There's a commercial alternative with more features too if you need support. Just try it.
