Service-independent playlist tool?

Comment by Anamon

Spotify keeps removing features regularly, particularly those related to social and sharing. It's gotten to a point that it became too tedious for me to keep curating my usual "mixtape" playlists on Spotify that I used to share with the world.

I will try to keep curating my playlists in a service-independent fashion, and store them locally. But I was wondering if there was some kind of service that would allow me to share these playlists, without having them be tied to a particular streaming service.

There was a German website called "playlistr" that did something similar, but it was shut down last year. There's also a service for labels and artists (I forgot the name) that allows them to share their music across all the streaming platforms they're on.

I'm thinking of something that would allow me to add tracks "in abstract" by artist/title/album/… metadata, share that playlist, and anyone who calls it up would get to play whatever tracks are available from the streaming service(s) they personally subscribe to. If you're a Spotify Premium subscriber, you can listen to the playlist there. If you're on Google Music or Apple Music, you can listen to it there.

My search only led me to something called Spinlist.fm, but it's both invite-only and iOS-only at the moment – I don't have either. If nothing like this exists, I might have to do it myself :)

Love the desktop version of Spotify. Lots of songs, playlists and very easy to discover new music and artists. I do feel that the app version needs a lot of work. I tried using on my phone (Android OS) and found it very difficult to use. No option to choose song, have to listen to whole playlist.

Note: opinion solely on free version of Spotify.

Spotify isn't available in Germany, but you can use "Simfy".
Its exactly the same software and offer as Spotify. Of course, there is a free version, too.

Good news for you guys! Spotify is the best thing from Sweden since Volvo, IKEA, The Pirate Bay and AlternativeTo ;)

Yay, Spotify has been officially releasedi n the U.S. It's invite-only, though. :(

Also, I like IKEA.

I have some invites. Posted a separate thread about it but let me know if you missed them :)

If you like Spotify, take a look at SongZilla

Spotify is getting greedy.

Just head to groovylists.com and convert your Spotify playlists to Grooveshark.

It's slightly faster but overall I prefer We7. We7 tends to have more music I like and also you can earn an ad free day on We7.

Sorry I like to have a .mp3 on a hard drive rather then streaming. Or watch it on YouTube since the official artist uploads it.

Also I saw somebody use it and it had an ad (die)

Do what Spotify do, with more musics sometimes and when the music you want is not listed in the GPM, you can add it so you can hear anywhere. The interface is uglier, though.

I don't trust one service to handle my music library (e.g. grooveshark), so i recommend exporting out your spotify playlists Tool here: http://joellehman.com/playlist/index.

The most important thing about any music streaming service is probably its catalogue, and Spotify is still by far the best in that regard.

Every release for the last 2 years removes another feature, take a look on the Spotify support forums to confirm this.
