Still waiting for the Techsmith/Linux foray with Snagit. As of 11/2019, this should give us a clue as to how that is progressing. This search for the term "LINUX" on Techsmith.com this morning:

Guess the alternatives app can't handle a snagit share.. oh well. The response from Techsmith search engine when I entered LINUX was "Did you mean 'links'"

I love SnagIt... when using Windows OS.
I now have switched to Mac & SnagIt crashes very often... and forces me to restart my computer.
So basically I paid for the license of a software that does not work.

The problem is not with the software which is great but with the licence. It's one of those apps that you can use on up to 2 computers but you can only launch one copy of Snagit at a time. If you want to launch two copies of Snagit, you have to buy a multi user licence...But you to buy at least buy a package of 5 licences.

HyperSnap from Hyperionics has a similar licencing policy but they allow you to buy any number of licences, so you can buy two licences if you want. They also allow software installation on any number of computers (even with one key, contrary to Snagit).

That's why, like some others, i tend to go open source these days. At least we're not bothered by "prison-like" licences.

Addition to the list

King Kong Capture. Not free, but nice tool. Nice option is the use of a workspace, like Snagit, so you don't have to save the capture before taking another one. For example, FastStone (FSCapture) is a great tool, but the downside is you'll need to save the screenshot to the clipboard or off to disk before taking another.

The best screenshot application at the moment!
Especially because of the fantastic image Editor that comes with SnagIt.
The combination of screen-capture and editing functionality makes the difference to other tools.

Nice combination of ease of use and features. Downside is that it isn't free.

Do you work for free? I'm a software developer and I love how everything wants everything for free.

Seriously, you need to get over it and stop being a cheapskate. Not everything have to be freeware. Money is what spurs innovation, not generosity.
