SeaTools Reviews

about SeaTools · · Helpful Not helpful Report as spam

SeaTools is horrible software to use. It cannot be compared to HD Sentinel ot Crystal Disk Info or Harware Monitor as it does not cover most of the same features. It should be rather compared to e.g. WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic or Samsung Magician or any other branded HDD Software for disk checking and report used during RMA and support.
I privately own 20+ HDDs including dead and working, 2.5/3.5/SSD Seagate HDDs, and even more Seagate owned Samsung and Maxtor still working, along with Hitachi, Western Digital, Crucial drives.
The most useful tools covering SeaTools features so far for any brand drives have been:

  • Windows own tools (diskpart, chkdsk, ...)
  • WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic, flexible to widely allow other brands to be acted upon
  • other generic tools to wipe, erase LBA, report SMART, check integrity such as DiskGenius, AOMEI, EaseUS, etc ... and aforementioned HD Sentinel, Crystal Disk Info, and Harware Monitor.

A good software to diagnosis HDD. I only use it as a Live CD before boot not on Windows. Through it is a bit old and should be replaced by something better.

Installation not OK: takes too long time and too much place

I do not like SeaTools because it is not portable as CrystalDiskInfo is, and because you must install dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe as a precondtition. dot.Net 4 needs 48.1 MB and it is only necessary for Seatools. The installation of dot.Net 4 was very long, and then needed an update, which needed a very long time too.
In spite of successful installation of dot.Net 4 the installation procedure of SeaTools could not be finished successfully on Vista business 64 bit. Hands away from this unmature disk-tool.
