I use Paint.NET as my preferred paint tool in Windows. Pixelmator, my favorite on Mac, is a lot better in every way.

To clarify: the non-Pro version is not a feature-locked version of the Pro version. It's feature-complete for image editing, and is much cheaper. It's the one I'm using.

methinks it's better to list the two as separate entries on alternativeto.net.

Pixelmator pro (that's the icon used here, so I presume we're talking Pixelmator pro and not just good old Pixelmator which also still exists and gets updates) – for an app that has "pro" in its name the workflow is decidedly non-pro. Too much mousing around is required and not enough keyboard shortcuts on which pros heavily rely. Not impressed.

Excellent for manipulating bitmaps. This software is fast and stable. It is layer based and has a large variety of drawing and painting tools. Attractive dark themed interface does not distract from the composition. The distortion tool is very useful and is similar to Kai's Power Goo. The Repair and Clone tools are also very useful. The iOS version is also very good.

POOR substitube for Photoshop Elements

about Pixelmator and Adobe Photoshop Elements, GIMP · · Helpful Not helpful -1 Helpful Report as spam

Please notice I wrote "Photoshop Elements" and not "Photoshop".

The ~$30 wasted on pixelmator could have been better spent donating to the GIMP project. Splurge another $30-$70 (market fluctuations) for Photoshop Elements.
