OTP Auth Reviews

about OTP Auth · · Helpful Not helpful 1 Helpful Report as spam

Switched from Google Authenticator to OTP Auth and I'm really happy I did (even thoguh it was a pain in the ass to create all 2fa codes again, could not import anything from Google Authenticator.

Pros:

  • Easy password-protected backup solution
  • iCloud Syncing for multiple devices
  • Easy access to the actual security key and QR code if you want to switch to another app
  • On Device encryption and unlockable with face id and touch id (or password)
  • Nice little icons
  • Free version has everything you need, pro version is mostly there to say thank you
  • Apple Watch support
  • No outside server involved, just your device and iCloud if you want it to be

Cons:

  • Only exists in the apple universe, so switching to an android device will result in the need to scan all QR codes again (still way less painful than switching from Google Authenticator).

I prefer OTP Auth as it allows syncing accounts to all iOS devices via iCloud and provides for manual backups. Other authenticators either have no sync/backup or require you to register with their servers via a mobile number.
