I tried many NAS systems.

The most systems are bad... the only two good ones are FreeNAS and OMV

But OMV is the only ARM one that is stable and works perfect!!

Running OMV as a VM

about OpenMediaVault · · Helpful Not helpful Report as spam

I decided to try this OS out in a virtual machine on my "mainframe" (hypervisor, duh?) and it was nice, the test evolved into something sharp and production-like so I didn't uninstall it. It has been running as a VM for about a year or so, and I like it. I would rather run at on a dedicated box, but I am not gonna use NFS for network storage anymore. I am planning on using ceph instead, and surely, I don't need OMV to use NFS but it was there and it was easy to setup in the webGUI so I thought "why the hell not?" hehe.

But if you want a NAS that you build on your own, instead of buying a Synology or something, I can highly recommend this distro for you.
