Olive - Anonymizer
Software which enables circumvention of regional restrictions
What is Olive - Anonymizer?
Olive is our attempt to create a more open internet. Back in its early days, the internet had no artificial borders. People were free to access the information they wanted to. However, with the passage of time, things changed. Different authorities imposed restrictions on the type of content accessible to a person. There were many motivations for it – political, legal, etc. However, we believe that this concept of gatekeepers of information belongs to the past. We believe that it should be people’s prerogative on what content they want to access.
Olive is a free software that will let you bypass restrictions and access global content and in the meantime, protect your online activity to a certain extent. You can use it to get access to services available in only certain areas, for example the US Netflix library, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, etc. Or you can use it to follow sports events in your native language. Or if you are travelling to a country that has banned access to popular social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc.
Being a people powered network, our users are our strength. So we encourage you to contribute to the network and help other people enjoy their freedom.

Scam behavior: the service claimed to be free, but all the features were blocked if you didn't buy the Premium version. Moreover it did not uninstall completely from Windows.

I am using Olive for quite a time and it really helps you to reach sensitive to Chinese Great FireWall websites, like Youtube or Facebook. VPN alternatives do exist, but they are systematically restricted in use in China and it's usually too late to install them when you are already in this country.
I am far from being a tech genius so I had some troubles personalizing Olive's connection (to make it different for Firefox and Chrome). The guy from the support was being able to fix it for me, so I'd say it's really decent service overall, function- and support-wise.
