nvPY Reviews

nvPY is a lightweight replacement front-end to Simplenote's electron solution for Desktops. Simplenote's Windows set-up executable is 100mb (expanding to much more after installation). Its Linux appImage is over 75mbs. Applications built using electron require more RAM and CPU horsepower.

nvPY responds to this overhead in a barebones way: focusing 'simply' on your notes. Its RAM and CPU requirements are minimal. It has performed much better for me by far (on Linux) than Simplenote's own desktop efforts.

As a happy user of Simplenote, nvPY has greatly improved by experience with the service: allowing low-resource effective syncing between my Linux Desktop and Android devices.

Perhaps a nice cross-OS alternative, but an eyesore on Windows, and requiring Python to run doesn't make it straightforward to suggest to peers.

Thrilled to see a cross-platform version of Notational Velocity Alt. Keyboard shortcuts work great, making it a lightning fast way to find notes and add new ones. Will be nice once a preferences menu is added to easily change fonts and themes, but this is a perfectly usable application as is.
