Navicat Monitor Reviews

I've been using Navicat Monitor since it was first released a couple of years ago. Since then, I've come to rely on it as a key part of my database tuning activities. I really like the fact that you don't have to install any software on the target database server. That leaves it free to do its job at 100% capacity. It also works amazingly well with my Amazon RDS cloud instances.

I am an IT consulting from Toronto, Canada. At my current job, I am working with SQL Server as well as Microsoft Azure. I requested that the organization purchase Navicat Monitor in order to tune our database instances. The Dashboard lists all of our monitored instances in one place so that we can quickly see how the servers are currently functioning. It also gives us an overview of the performance, availability and health of each instance, which helps us spot any potential issues before they become a real problem.

In my opinion, the real values of Navicat are:

  • editing of tables in an Excel type fashion
  • import/export from/to many function
  • migration of databases from one server to another

I recently had the opportunity to use the migration feature and found it to be extremely useful! It's something that I've never seen in any other database monitoring product.
