One man army results in the best music player / manager out there!

about MusicBee · · Helpful Not helpful 4 Helpful Report as spam

MusicBee is mostly maintained and created by one man Stephen Mayall. This is the biggest strength because the passion of the developer makes sure that most or ALL of the drawbacks of the player are smoothed out as soon as the user complains about it in the forums. if they can't be due to a reason then SM mentions it in the replies.

The interface of the player is the BEST I have seen so far in managing so many complicated views and information for any playing track. This player is what I use for arranging the 7000+ mp3s in my folders in any way I want. As mentioned before, the seamless Last.fm integration and ability to resync playcount allows one to format their pc and start fresh without having to worry about their playcount as per the player stats.

The online tagging system of the software is great though I personally still prefer Picard. But I must admit the album art collection in UNSURPASSED even in dedicated softwares for album art collection.

This along with a lot other features make this the best music player that money (it's free but still) can buy!

Underdog Music Player

I was trying music management software from top to bottom. Foobar, itunes, winamp, etc. MusicBee was 6 or 7th position. The first ones disappointed me for one reason or another. And my last chance was this one MusicBee. I was not expecting very much. And what a surprise! This player is amazing! It has a lot of features and it a lot of settings... It is an amazing piece of software. It is light and works perfectly. I am in love with it. Give it a chance!

A fantastically versatile and customisable music player. Far and above the most feature-rich music player I have found. It should be noted that I have encountered some minor glitches on Windows 7, but have not found any during my use with Windows 10.

Free elegant music organizer with many features to help with search and edit meta-data in large-scale music collection. Best free solutions in my opinion)

Just list of features that I found very usable and compelling:

  1. Getting albums data from online libraries what helps organize and fix your collection extremely quickly.
  2. Inbox - Just contains founded but not reviewed tracks.
  3. Advanced Tagging Tool plugin brings much powerful set of tools. Example, you could fix, replace, swap and replace tags with 5 levels Regular Expression processing, copy/past multiple tags from one group of selected to another, swap tags, auto-rate tracks by rules (algorithm will try to assume how you love the track by count of plays in a time frame)
  4. Custom and Virtual Tracks - It's very powerful feature, you can use it to add some specific data about tracks or to highlight something. For example, how I'm using it, I'm coloring tracks with red if some information missing in tags, yellow - if album, title or artist tags contains one or several frequent mistakes (double spaces, capitalized pronouns, etc.), light blue - for lossy and dark blue for lossy with bitrate <= 128kbs, dark grey for referenced tracks. This helps to visually find and fix errors.
  5. Auto-DJ - I think it was created for a party or making different mood with random selection by criteria. But I use it to stream all unrated and tracks not listened before. So, MusicBee is the first my media player who allowed me to mark thousands of tracks in my collection. It just plays me what I haven't listened yet.

Honestly, I do not know other players who give such power. Foobar, perhaps, but it's absolutely terrible as everyday player.

My favourite player

I've tried multiple music players and this one is my favourite. I adore the interface as well as the last.fm integration. Not having to download the actual last.fm program is a huge plus.

The auto-dj function has to be my favourite though. It's very accurate and allows me to listen to music that I don't have in my library. Great way to find new artists.

It's full of features and a definite recommendation.

Woo MusicBee!

I've been using MusicBee for about a year now. It use to be a bit buggy, but I have zero issues with the current version.
I ditched iTunes a long time ago (along with my iPod, so I can't comment on MB's support). MB is easily superior to SongBird,Winamp and media monkey when it comes to performance.
MB might not be as light-weight as foobar2000 and some others, but it is much more convenient to customize and actually use. Very iTunes-esque interface without all the resource hogging. Highly recommend.

Great, so much customization, great support, updated often. 32bit, ASIO support....
However it poorly handles transferring files... It doesn't use relative file paths, rather direct... The library is not simply an XML, so you can't just use notepad++ to replace the directory text....
My library had corrupted before, and even though there's a bak, I couldn't recover it... Obv. my music was still there, but it had to relocate everything [several hours, and playlists never readded the tracks]

MusicBee is the best music player available, period.

The UI is interesting in that it sports a modern-looking skin, but the ability to customize it on top of that ensures that it won't get out of fashion anytime soon.

Beyond that, there is a clear focus on ergonomy in that design. all the side panels are toggleable so you can have only the middle row with your songs, albums and all related information in sight. Or if you're on a tagging/organization spree, keep everything open at all times. Speaking of organization, the app provides some extremely powerful tools in the form of auto-tagging for popular tracks, or a user-friendly interface for manual tagging. (It will require some alternative keybindings to become really efficient, but once you have that, an app like Metatogger will feel utterly redundant.) Once your files are tagged, MusicBee can – either manually or automatically – move your files in folders that you can configure at will through regular expressions.

And the whole genius of the thing is that all these functions, although they require a little bit of time investment, are really easy to use. And if you find something missing, there are a few plugins to choose from.

That's for the whole library aspect. Now for the actual music player… there is not much to be said, and for a good reason. MusicBee does exactly what you want it to do. There is no single format it won't play, and it will barely consume any resource while playing.

What's more, you have a compact and a mini player if that's your thing – and MusicBee can automatically switch to these once you launch a song.

TL;DR: need something related to audio tagging or playing? MusicBee has it.

Best music player - replaced Winamp with it. It's the best alternative.

Con: no Linux version!

Best music manager by leaps and bounds. There are a ton of skins, a ton of customization options for the layout, powerful tools for sorting and viewing, and it's all organized in a way that just makes sense. Oh and it's fast as hell.

Supports playing library shuffled directly from right clicking the tasks bar. Able to display the audio format and URL of the file in the player, the URL directly biring the file explorer on the right page
