Very lightweight without compromising features. I especially like the inbuilt subtitle search.

Doesn't compare to Zoom Player's UI and lacks customization options, but it has the best DirectShow filters, it plays about anything. It even offers DirectX Video Acceleration.

You can use MPC-HC's DirectShow filters with Zoom Player for the ultimate multimedia experience.

Just so everyone is clear the above comment is an advert for zoom player... lol. In reality zoom player sucks and is not free by any means.

Personally, I do not like the tool. But a friend of mine loves this player very much because it's easier to use for him, and also the tool provides a bunch of useful options, configs, settings, tools.

it seems to rivals VLC, which uses Less Processing Power than VLC although only available for windows platform but it seems developer decided to stop so let's stick for VLC.

Not discontinued. Sometimes there are long breaks between releases, it can be months, or years. One break was 2 years (between 2015 to 2017). A new version was just released (Sept/2018).

Best player I know of, when VLC fails I use this. User interface could use an upgrade. This is open source software... It's not discontinued!
